Dear Mr. Denton:
This letter is in response to your November 26, 1984 letter requesting a schedule for providing further information on spray additive system surveillance requirements.
As discussed with your staff, we will be unable to provide a complete schedule for items 1-3 until June 28, 1985.
Prior to providing such a schedule, we need t1me to evaluate a proposal to analyze the consequences of operating without the addition of sodium hydroxide to the eonta1nment through the spray system, during the initial phase of an accident.
Should the results of that evaluation indicate analyses can be performed to demonstrate that an operable system capable of delivering sodium hydr oxide through the containment spray system 1s not essential to public health and safety, we will then transm1t'a schedule for the completion of those analyses.
If the evaluatio indicates this approach is not feasible, we will transmit a schedule for th specific 1nformation you requested.
With respect to item 4, emergency procedure revis1ons which address spray system malfunctions will be completed by the end of March, 1985.
This document has been prepared following Corporate procedures which incorporate a reasonable set of controls to insure its accuracy and completeness prior to signature by the undersigned.
