Gray File On June 6, 1984, the Indiana and Michigan Electric Company (IMEC) requested an extension of the schedule for completion of installation of Thermo-Lag fire protection materials at the Donald C.-Cook Nuclear Plant, Unit Nos.
1 and 2.
This request is based on reported delays in obtaining the materials from the manufacturer notwithstanding the extraordinary efforts by IMEC to complete the effort. The new date proposed by IMEC to conclude this task was June 30,
- 1984, however, in discussions with your staff, that date was based on delivery schedules which in all likelihood, could not be met.
On June 27, 1984 the IMEC supplemented the original request with an updated schedule to reflect ongoing difficulties with obtaining sufficient Thermo-Lag materials.
The new schedule date for completion of the installation is August 15, 1984.
We have reviewed your request and believe that IMEC should continue to exert efforts to expedite the installation of the fire protection materials.
Your staff has indicated that installation at the site will require about two weeks after delivery of the material.
We therefore approve the schedule slippage to two weeks after receipt of the material but in no case should the installation exceed August 15, 1984.
The compensatory measures as detailed in the IMEC March 16, 1984 letter as may be applied to the yet to be modified areas are adequate to ensure the public health and safety pending completion of this work.
