Gray File E Jordan JN Grace In our review of the Indiana and Michigan Electric Company letter dated March 8, 1984 regarding the schedule and technical exemptions request from the requirements of 10 CFR 50.48 and Appendix R for the Donald C.

Cook Nuclear Plant, Unit Nos.

1 and 2, we have identified additional information we will need for the technical exemption.

The schedular request is being handled by separate action.

In the March 8, 1984 letter, IMEC requested exemption for the three-hour fire hatches.

Please provide the following information on the hatches:

1.

Provide the drawings or sketches of the unprotected hatches and the effective, if not certified, fire rating; 2.

Provide a description of the additional insulation including how it is applied, protected, and the resultant effective fire rating; 3.

Describe the movable parts or identify on the sketches including any unprotected areas; and 4.

Provide any alternatives to the insulation or compensatory measures that may be available.

Please advise this office as to the schedule for submittal of this informa-tion.

The reporting and/or recordkeeping requirements of this letter affect fewer than ten respondents; therefore OMB clearance is not required under P.L.96-511.
