ATTACHMENT TO AEP:NRC:0579A On July 27, 1981, a Radiation Protection Supervisor was relieved of his normal responsibilities and assigned to Radiation Protection Technician training. On that date formal training was begun for the Radiation Protection Technicians as well as the individuals in the student co-operative training program. The present training program is based on a combination of a) an accelerated version of the program utilized previously with only part-time training supervision, b) results of recent techn'ician testing, and c) initial feedback from both technicians and other Radiation Protection Supervisors on areas of weakness in current training'his supervisor is also charged with the development of a formalized, long term technician training program. The development of the training program will be a two stage process to be accomplished concurrently with the present high level of activity in technician training. Me have also initiated efforts to survey existing training programs to help provide uniformity and maximum effectiveness by taking advantage of experience .~f other utilities.

The first phase of program development is the preparation of a document specifying the guiding principles such as personnel responsibilities, training program goals, methods of instru'ction, assessment, documentation, retraining, etc. The second phase of development is the production of training I]etails such as topics, lesson plans, schedules, etc.

To avoid decreasing the current level of technician training and to allow adequate time to factor in experience in our program as well as p.ograms at other plants, the first phase of the program development will be completed by 1 January, 1982, with the second phase developed over the following, six months, with the total program completed by 1 July, 1982.
