Units1,2, and 3 Docket Nos. STN 50-528/529/530 Response to NRC Generic Letter 97-01 This letter provides Arizona Public Service Company's (APS) 30-day response to Generic Letter 97-01, "Degradation of Control Rod Drive Mechanism Nozzle and Other Vessel Closure Head Penetrations".

APS is working with industry groups and the Combustion Engineering Owners Group (CEOG) in addressing reactor vessel head nozzle cracking.issues in order to formulate the 120-day response to Generic Letter 97-01.

APS intends to submit a written response to the NRC by July 30, 1997, relative to items 1 and 2 of the Requested Information section of the Generic Letter.

Ifthe schedule or the content of the written report needs to be revised from that discussed in the Generic Letter, APS willprovide appropriate notification to the NRC.
