- 1996, MEETING WITH ABB COMBUSTION ENGINEERING REGARDING LEAD FUEL ASSEMBLIES On July 3, 1996, representatives of ABB Combustion Engineering (ABB-CE) and Arizona Public Service (APS) met with representatives of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) at the NRC's offices in Rockville, Maryland.
Attachment 1 provides a list of meeting attendees.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ABB-CE's plans regarding lead fuel assemblies at APS's Palo Verde nuclear plants.
ABB-CE's presentation consisted of proprietary information.
The presentation material was submitted by letter dated July 3, 1996.
In accordance with the provisions of 10 CFR 2.790, the NRC will withhold the material from public disclosure.
After ABB-CE's presentation, the group discussed fuel burnup limits and the possibility of using measurable parameters to determine the vulnerability of fuel to failures due to reactivity insertion accidents.
The group also had a
short discussion of the need for exemptions for advanced cladding materials.
