Dear Sirs:
Subject:
Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS)
Unit 1 Docket No. STN 50-528 Reactor Vessel Material Surveillance Capsule File: 94-056-026 Pursuant to 10 CFR 50, Appendix H, this letter transmits a report of the analysis of a PVNGS Unit 1 reactor vessel material surveillance capsule.
The report presents the results of the examination of the Unit 1 surveillance capsule removed from the 13T location. This is the first capsule to be removed from the reactor in accordance with the
'reactor vessel material surveillance program which monitors the effects of neutron irradiation on the Unit 1 reactor pressure vessel material. The 13T capsule was removed from the reactor vessel during the Unit 1 refueling outage (October'9, 1993), after 4.53 effective full power years (EFPY) of plant operation (exposure).
Westinghouse Science and Technology Center Hot Cell Facility performed the post irradiation mechanical testing of the Charpy V-notch impact, tensile and precracked Charpy V-notch surveillance specimens.,
The removal of the capsule is in accordance with Unit
- 1. Technical Specification surveillance requirement 4.4.8.1.2, Table 4.4-5, which lists capsule number 3, vessel location 13T, as having a withdrawal time of between 4 and 5 EFPY.
