Nuclear Regulatory Commission Steam Generator Action Plan Page 2 This letter is being provided pursuant to References 2 and 4 to notify the NRC in writing that the commitment made in Reference 1 to shut down Unit 3 by no later than November
~
<8, 1993,!s being revised.
The revised data ta begin shut down of Unit 3 willbe no later than December 4, 1993.
The reason for the extension is the delay in startup of Unit 1 from its refueling outage.
The justification for the continued operation of Unit 3 until the proposed midcycle outage was previously submitted'to the NRC by Reference 3.
ln addition, NRC has been kept informed of the current steam generator leakage on Unit 3, which is currently stable at approximately 0.84 gallons per day.
This leakage is being monitored by tritiumsampling from the condensate effluent, and should a sudden change in the leak rate be observed, APS would immediately reevaluate continued operation of Unit 3.
Should you have any questions, please call Richard A. Bernier at (602) 393-5882.
Sincerely, JML/RAEI/JRP/rv cc:
