1 15 Martxnxque Drzve Houston, TX 77058 October 1, 1993 Office of Public Affairs U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 Ladies and Gentlemen of the Office of Public Affairs, For some years I have been aware of a potential problem within the Steam Generators of Pressurized Water Reactors. This particular problem concerns the possible deterioration over time of the integrity of the tubes within the Steam Generators. I believe, over the years, I have seen some discussions of this problem in various NRC publications such as your Weekly News Releases and in the NRC Annual Reports.

It would help me a great deal, if you would please, at. your earliest convenience, send me some readily available documents on this subject so that I may begin to update my memory.

Then, please pass this letter on to the NRC's Public Document Room so that they can scan their files and identify other documents to me that treat this subject in regards to descriptions of the problems with tubes in PWR Steam Generators; a chronology of these problems; descriptions of the possible causes of these problems; identification of possible corrective actions for these problems and the estimated impacts of these corrective actions on the respective power station-types; and a description of changes in the codes, regulations and review processes, in being or contemplated, that will lessen the chances for such problems appearing in new construction.

When the Document Room personnel send me a list of identified documents on this subject, it would be a big help also indicate which of those documents would also if be they would available in an NRC Public Document Room near my geographical location; obtaining documents from the GPO can often turn out to be a very time-consuming project.

Sincerely, n< ÃN~lg 93iii00i92 93i005 <I~)
