Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS)
Units 1, 2, and 3 Docket Nos. STN 50-528/529/530 Pre-certification Training Planned For Second Simulator File: 93-005-419.06 Arizona Public Service Company (APS) is in the process of installing a second, plant-referenced simulator. Certification testing ofthe new simulator is close to completion, and APS expects to submit the certification package to the NRC on or about December 10, 1993.
As discussed during a
telephone conference call on October 18, 1993, among representatives of NRR's Operator Licensing Branch, NRC Region V, and APS, it is APS'nderstanding of 10 CFR 55.45(b)(1) that while operating tests must be administered on a certified simulator, training may be conducted on a simulator prior to certification.
APS anticipates certification testing of the second simulator will be completed approximately November 1, 1993. At that time, the PVNGS Nuclear Training Department plans to begin routine operator training using the new simulator.
For the approximate period of November 1 to December 10, 1993, PVNGS will be conducting training on a simulator for which certification testing is complete, but which has not been formally certified to the NRC. During this interim period, the new simulator willnot be used to take credit for annual operating tests.
