Dear Hr. Conway:

SUBJECT:

RISK-BASED INSPECTION GUIDES The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is developing risk-based inspection guides (RIGs) to be published as a

NUREG report under our Technical Assistance Program with the national laboratories.

The RIGs provide guidance for NRC inspections, To obtain information for one specific guide, we would like to send a

representative of our contractor, Pacific Northwest Laboratories, and a member of the Risk Applications Branch to the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station on September 15, 1992, to accompany the NRC resident inspectors in a walkdown of the auxiliary feedwater system.

While on site, the contractor will be available to receive any comments you may have or answer any questions regarding the RIG.

Your participation is strictly voluntary, however.

I am enclosing a draft copy of the RIG for the auxiliary feedwater system.

Please let us know by telephone if you would like to participate in this effort.

Your cooperation is appreciated.
