Units 1, 2, and 3 Docket Nos. STN 50-528/529/530 Transmittal of Subgroup 4, 5, and 22 CEA Slip Analysis for Reactor Power Cutback Timer File: 92-056-026 92-001-703 Pursuant to the request of Mr. D. H. Coe, NRC Region V Senior Resident Inspector, Arizona Public Service Company (APS) hereby provides the "Subgroup 4, 5, and 22 CEA Slip Analysis for Reactor Power Cutback Timer" as Enclosure 1 to this letter.
This analysis provides the justification for reintroducing the Core Protection Calculator/Control Element Assembly (CEA) Calculator cutback timer forthe PVNGS units based on previously calculated reload analysis.
The calculation looks at possible two consecutive four-finger slips in the "legal" banks (currently banks four and five) and determines rod worths and distortion factors.
Based on the limiting distortion factor, a safety analysis evaluation concludes that the four-finger CEA drop event bounds the two consecutive slips and hence is less limiting.
The APS recorded calculation is considered by Combustion Engineering, Inc. (CE) to be proprietary information.
