Inspection Report 528/90-43, 529/90-43, and 530/90-43 File:

90-070-026 This letter* is provided as requested by the referenced cover letter in response to items 3.A, 3.C, and 3.D of the subject inspection report.

Item 3.A involved the calculation of iodine plateout in effluent radiation monitors and the development, and procedural incorporation of iodine correction factors=;

The calculation for iodine plateout is complete and has been incorporated into the procedure.

The procedure revision will be effective December 28, 1990.

Item 3.C discussed the methods for determining the setpoints for radiation monitor alarms and their periodic review.

The "Radiation Monitor Alarm Setpoint Determination" procedure (75RP-9ZZ89) was changed to provide a

specific interval for the periodic assessment.

The inspection report noted

"...the staff was unable to provide the inspector with any documentation of the recommended periodic assessments."

The documentation for the periodic assessment is available for an inspector's review.

Enhanced guidance for the determination and control of alarm setpoints has been incorporated into a new procedure (74RM-9EF42).

This procedure will supersede 75RP-9ZZ89 and will be effective December 28, 1990.
