PVNGS Diverse Auxiliary Feedwater Actuation System-Conceptual Design and Implementation Schedule for ATWS Rule, 10 CFR 50.62 File: 90-056-026

Enclosed, for your review, is the conceptual design for the PVNGS Diverse Auxiliary Feedwater Actuation System (DAFAS). Reference 1 provided APS's initial commitment concerning the implementation of the DAFAS as prior to restart from the third refueling outage for PVNGS Units 1, 2,

and 3.

Reference 2 provided a tentative, expedited implementation schedule for Unit 3 as prior to restart from the second refueling outage.

Due to the scope of the modification required for DAFAS, implementation for Unit 3 is now expected to be performed prior to restart from the third refueling outage.

Therefore, the PVNGS DAFAS implement-ation schedule is as follows:

Unit 3

- Prior to nq~

restart from the third refueling outage.

Unit 1 - Prior to restart from the third refueling outage.

Unit 2 - Prior to restart from the third refueling outage.

161-63369AM/RAB/KU'C July 31, 1990 In addition, as discussed in Reference 3, Unit 2 Diverse Scram System (DSS) has been installed and is functioning as required.

The DSS implementation schedule for Units 1 and 3 remains as follows:

Unit l - Prior to restart from the third refueling outage.

Unit 3 - Prior to restart from the second refueling outage.
