Quality Requirements for Meteorological Tower Equipment File:
90-A-056-026; 90-A-005-419.05 The referenced letter was submitted to transmit a proposed clarification to the meteorological tower equipment quality assurance program description contained in the Safety Analysis Report for Palo Verde.
The letter was submitted pursuant to 10 CFR 50.54(a)(3).
The clarification specified that meteorological system calibration is subject to the APS quality assurance program.
Other activities, as listed in the letter, will not be subject to the quality assurance program.
This is in accordance with Regulatory Guide 1.97, Revision 2 requirements which specify that Category 3 instrumentation (which includes the meteorological tower) be "high quality commercial grade," with no requirements for QA program controls.
The purpose of this letter is to confirm that meteorological system calibration is a part of the PVNGS Surveillance Test program as required by Technical Specification Section 4.3.3.4 and therefore, it is subject to the quality assurance program.
Since retests for corrective maintenance are also performed under the same surveillance requirement, they are indirectly covered under the quality assurance program as we'l.
