89-010-026 This letter forwards the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS) response to Generic Letter 89-08 "Erosion/Corrosion-Induced Pipe Wall Thinning."
PVNGS has been actively involved in ultrasonic inspection for detection of both single and two-phase erosion/corrosion induced pipe wall thinning since the first refueling outage of Unit 1.
Baseline inspections have been performed on all three PVNGS units in accordance with NUMARC guidelines.
These inspections have shown no significant occurrence of the flow assisted erosion/corrosion phenomena.
PVNGS has utilized the CHEC and CHECMATE computer codes and the output of these codes does not indicate PVNGS will be susceptible to any appreciable wear rates.
PVNGS is in the process of formalizing the current inspection program in the form of Administrative and Departmental Control Procedures.
This program will be based on the NUMARC and EPRI guidelines with the CHEC and CHECMATE computer codes as the cornerstone.
The currently scheduled completion date for approval of the program is December 31, 1989.
