Letter from NRC to all holders of operating licenses or construction permits for nuclear power reactors dated March 10, 1988

Subject:

NRC Bulletin 88-03 The referenced letter requested licensees to perform inspections to ensure that all General Electric (GE) latching-type HFA relays installed in Class 1E applications have adequate latch engagements and that those relays which fail to meet acceptance criteria be repaired or replaced..

Based on an evaluation that was completed December 29,

1988, APS has determined that there are no latching type HFA relays used in Class lE service at Palo Verde or quality related latching type HFA relays in the warehouse.

It has been

noted, however, that latching type relays are utilized in non-Class 1E application at PVNGS.

Work requests have been issued to perform the Service Advice inspections on the non-Class 1E relays.
