Response

to Notice of Violations from SSFI Inspection

Dear Sirs:

Subject:

Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS)

Units 1, 2, and 3

SSFI Diesel Generator (DG) and Auxiliary Feedwater (AF)

Systems Review File:

88-056-026; 88-070-026 ANPP's initial response to the Notice of Violation from the SSFI Inspection was provided to the NRC by Reference (B).

In this initial

response, ANPP committed to provide a detailed review of two selected safety-related
systems, DG and AF by December 1988.

Since the submittal of Reference (B) on April 25,

1988, we have instituted a

major program within the Nuclear Engineering Department.

The Engineering Excellence Program is composed of fourteen (14) major.objectives.

One objective specifically addresses systems reviews and training for the Nuclear Engineering Department staff.- In preparation to commence the first system reviews, it was necessary to develop standards for the system reviews, calculations reviews, training packages, Design Basis Manual Writers Guides and

formats, etc.

We plan to commence the system reviews immediately following this effort and anticipate a

four (4) month duration for these initial systems to be reviewed.
