Dear Sir:
Subject:
Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS)
Unit 3 Unit 3 "B" Diesel Generator Bearing Temperature Monitor File: 87-G-056-026 During the NRC inspection of the Unit 3 "B" Diesel Generator, ANPP agreed to install a temperature monitoring device on the No.
2 main bearing.
The plan was to remove one of the two eutectic trip devices, and to replace it with a temperature sensor connected to an indicating device.
The diesel engine manufacturer has since stated that we must have both eutectic trip devices operable.
A combination trip device/temperature sensor is available but cannot be delivered for four to five weeks.
Since this would impact critical, path, ANPP and NRC have had several phone calls to discuss the item.
On August 28, 1987, Mr. Licitra (NRC) informed Mr. Quinn (ANPP) that the NRC still wanted the device installed',
but that it could be installed at a later date.
Mr. Licitra requested ANPP to inform the NRC when the device could be installed.
ANPP has determined
- that, due to the time required for the diesel to be out of
- service, the installation should be done while the unit is in MODE 5.
We will complete the installation of the combination trip/sensing device the first time the unit is operating in MODE 5, after receiving the necessary parts.
Xf you have any additional questions on this matter, please.
