SUBJECT:
LETDOWN HEAT EXCHANGER NOZZLE CRACK AT PALO VERDE 3 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received the two reports attached to this letter in February and June of 1987.
They describe a through-wall crack in the letdown heat exchanger nozzle at Palo Verde 3 incurred in hot functional testing.
The builder of the heat exchangers, RECO Industries, Inc.,
who is now out of the business, informs us in the June report that your plant received one of their. heat exchanger products.
Me believe the Palo Verde 3
event is site-specific but because the event does have potential safety signif-
- icance, we are forwarding these reports to you.for your information.
