SUMMARY
OF MEETING TO DISCUSS DEVELOPMENT OF A TEMPERATURE DEPENDENT SHUTDOWN MARGIN A meeting was held in Bethesda, Maryland on June 27, 1985 with representatives of the applicant.
The purpose of the meeting was to hold initial discussions with the staff on the development of a temperature dependent shutdown margin for the Palo Verde Technical Specifications.
The meeting attendees are listed on Enclosure 1,
and the viewgraphs presented at the meeting are included as Enclosure 2.
The meeting is summarized as follows.
~Summar The applicant informed the staff that it is currently developing a proposed modification to the Palo Verde Technical Specifications (Items 3/4.1.1.1 and 3/4. 1. 1.2) to establish a shutdown margin that is temperature dependent in lieu of being mode dependent.
The proposal is tentatively targeted for submittal in September 1985.
The applicant stated that if the modification is approved by the staff, it would increase plant availability by reducing the amount of boration and deboration required during a plant shutdown.
The applicant requested staff feedback regarding the proposal.
The staff indicated that it is not aware of any considerations which would preclude the use of a temperature dependent shutdown margin, but the staff acceptability cannot be determined until after it has had a chance to review the actual proposal to be submitted in September 1985.
