Attached please find a Special Report prepared and submitted pursuant to Specification Table 3.3-6 (Radiation Monitoring Instrumentation) and 6.9.2 of Appendix A (Technical Specifications) to the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, Unit No.
1 Operating License.
This report discusses the exceeding of the 72-hour ACTION Statement for the operability of the Containment Area High Range Monitor (RU-149).

PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION UNIT 1 SPECIAL REPORT 1-SR-85-014 DOCKET NO.
STN 50-528 LICENSE NO. NPF-41 This Special Report is required by Palo Verde Unit Pl Technical Specification Table 3.3-6, ACTION 27-3.
On July 8, 1985, the 72-hour ACTION statement for operability of the Containment Area High Range Monitor (RU-149) was exceeded.
This monitor was declared inoperable due to erroneous readings.
Technical Specification Table 3.3-6, ACTION 27-1, requires a
monitoring program be initiated upon RU-149 being declared inoperable in excess of 72 hours8.333333e-4 days <br />0.02 hours <br />1.190476e-4 weeks <br />2.7396e-5 months <br />.
Emergency Plan Implementing Procedure kl4 was used to satisfy this requirement.
This procedure was reviewed by Resident NRC Inspector.
RU-149 was declared operable on July 10, 1985, following a circuit board replacement and performance of the appropriate surveillance requirement.
