dated May 30, 1985; Activation of Unit 1 License, (ANPP-32747)

Dear Mr. Martin:

In response to a phone call with Mr. R. J. Pate of your staff on June 19,

1985, we are providing confirmation of the actions taken prior to activation of Mr. Kenneth L. Koppelman for control room duties in 'Unit 1.

Mr. Koppelman was removed from the Operations Support Group, where he had been involved in coordinating the review and revision of procedures for approximately five

months, and was placed in Unit 1 as an extra, man on shift for forty hours in accordance Pith reference (1).

Next, in accordance with FSAR section 13.2.2.1.4, "Inactive Status Retraining",

and PVNGS Station Manual Procedure 82TR-9ZZ03, "Requalification Procedure for Licensed Operator Retraining",

he was given an oral examination similar in scope and format to the annual oral examination.

He successfully passed this examination (see attached documentation).

Lastly, a review was performed by the training department to determine his performance in the requalification training program.

This review determined that he is current in the requalification program.

Based on the foregoing actions, ANPP believed that Mr. Koppelman had demonstrated his knowledge and understanding of the facility operation and administration and at that time submitted Reference (2) to the NRC certifying Mr. Koppelman as acceptable for duties in Unit 1 as required by 10 CFR55.31(e).

He was then assigned to Unit 1 beginning on June. 1, 1985.
