SER Supplement No. 7.

Dear Mr. Knighton:

This will confirm D. K. Neal's March 27 and 28, 1985 telephone coversations with Messrs.

E. A. Licitra and D. J. Kubicki.

SER Supplement No.

7 references a number of fire protection related Design Change Packages (DCP's) mostly related to 10 CFR 50 Appendix R.

These were scheduled to be completed by April 1, 1985.

There are seven such areas of reference in Supplement No.

7 outlined below.

Following is a status report on these modifications:

1.

SER Supplement No. 7, Page 9-3 Water Supply System, second paragraph, "to add an indicating-type valve and piping that will isolate the hose stations on elevation 120 ft and 140 ft so that a single break will not interrupt primary and secondary fire suppression systems."

This was done with DCP 10M-FP-801 and is complete (Reference 4).

2.

Page 9-6, Fire Detection System, third paragraph, "committed to install additional fire detectors above suspended ceilings in the computer room (Zone 16) and in the Auxiliary Building laboratory rooms (Zones 57A and 57K) before April 1, 1985."

This is being done under DCP's 10M-QK-017 and 10M-QK-018.

These have been installed and are being tested.

Final tests are expected to be complete and the detectors in service by April 15, l985 or prior to initial criticality.

This is being done under DCP 10M-FP-124.

Final acceptance tests are being conducted and the systems are expected to be in service by April 15, 1985 or prior to initial critic'ality.

Page 9-9, third paragraph, "modifications will be implemented to improve the integrity of certain existing fire barriers so as to satisfy staff concerns."

This is being done under DCP's 10M-FP-096, 1SA-FP-104 which are expected to be completed by April 15, 1985 or prior to initial criticality and by DCP 1SA-FP-109 which is complete.

5.

Page 9-9, fourth paragraph, "the structural steel which supports the floor of Fire Area XVII (auxiliary building) will be protected by a fireproofing material that is l-hour fire rated."

This was done under DCP 1SA-FP-117 and is complete.

6.

Page 9-10, last paragraph, "For two other doors (J208 and J408),

the applicant has committed to install local sprinkler protection to protect the doors in the event of a significant, fire.",.This was done under DCP 10M-FP-133.

Installation and testing is complete and the sprinklers are now in service.

7.

Page 9-16, fifth paragraph, "As a further result of the spurious actua-tion and associated circuit analyses, the applicant committed to implement a number of modifications to satisfy the staff's guidelines or to mitigate staff concerns.

These commitments are contained in letters dated October 2, 1984 (Reference 1),

November 13, 1984 (Reference 2),

and November 21, 1984 (Reference 3).
