Letter from E. E.

Van Brunt, Jr.,

APS, to John B. Martin,

NRC, Region V, dated December 14, 1984 (ANPP-31468);

Subject:

Physical Security Program Deficiencies.

Dear Mr. Martin:

This letter is submitted as the final report of 'correction of the physical security program deficiencies identified during pre-operational physical security inspections.

Specific paragraph numbers refer to the referenced letter.

The duress alarm switches have been relocated and the alarms now annunciate both audibly and visibly (Paragraph 7).

The only deficiency with remaining action is glaucoma testing (Paragraph 6).

This testing will be completed by the obligated date of April 30, 1985.

The present status of the security system includes several problems which have evolved as operational experience has been gained with the system.

These include: troubleshooting "Hot Failover" problems with the computer, correcting the causes of spurious or invalid alarms, and completing modifications designed to enhance the operators'bility to operate the console efficiently.

These problems do not prevent the security force from meeting regulatory require-ments.

Normal reporting procedures are adequate to provide proper flow of further information between our organizations, obviating the need for further periodic reports.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Very truly yours, 85022704b3 850208 PDR ADOCK 05000528 8
