~ Phoenix, Arizona 85086 PALO VERDE UNIT 1 FUEL LOADING TO BE RESCHEDULED PHOENIX -- Arizona Public Service Co. announced today (Feb.
- 13) that fuel loading for Unit 1 of the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station under construction about 50 miles west of here will be rescheduled because of several continuing problems and related corrective actions at the plant.
Ed Van Brunt, APS vice president nuclear, said that prob-lems with the Low Pressure Safety Injection pumps, which were discovered during startup testing of Unit 1, have not yet been completely resolved.
"Because the pumps are on the critical
- path, we know that we cannot make the scheduled May fuel load-ing date.
Also, the various corrective actions APS has taken since the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Construction Assess-ment Team inspection of Unit 1 have affected the schedule."
Van Brunt said that APS is assessing the problems and the project schedule but does not yet have a new date for fuel loading nor does the utility know what the impact will be, if
- any, on overall Palo Verde cost or project schedule.
