PHOENIX. ARIZONA 65036 June 23, 1983 ANPP-24 155 JTB/MLR Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention:
Mr. George Knighton, Chief Licensing Branch No.
3 Division of Licensing U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C.

Subject:
k Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS Units 1, 2 and 3
Docket Nos.
STN-50-528/529/530 File:
83-056-026; G.l.01.10
Reference:
NUREG-0857, "Safety Evaluation Report",
related to the operation of Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station Units 1, 2
and 3, dated
- November, 1981.
Dear Mr. Knighton:
In accordance with our commitment of Section 8.4.2 (paragraph
- 5) of the referenced
- document, we are supplying the data required to demonstrate that the line voltage regulators perform as an acceptable isolation device by limiting the primary current under short circuit conditions on the secondary side to full load primary current.
The line voltage regulators are rated at 75 amps and 480 volts on the primary with 209 amps and 120 volts on the secondary.
The tested line voltage regulator with a bolted short on the secondary, has a
recorded primary current of 54.9 amps which was significantly less than the rated primary.
Additional tests also demonstrated its ability to maintain the rated voltage output with a degraded input voltage down to 77.5%.
At 75% of rated input, the secondary voltage was maintained at 96.7% of rated.
If we can be of further assistance, please contact us.
Very truly ours 8306280317 830623 PDR ADOCK 05000538 E
