PHOENIX. ARIZONA 65036 November 24, 1982 ANPP-22383 - ÃF(</JYM Mr. T. H. Novak Assistant Director for Licensing Division of Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission lItashington, D. C.
20555
Subject:
Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS) Units 1, 2 and 3
Docket Nos. STN-50-528/529/530 File:
82-056-026; G.1.01.10
Reference:
NUREG-0857, "Safety Evaluation Report" related to the Operation of Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS) Units 1, 2 and 3 dated
- November, 1981.
Dear Mr. Novak:
x Section 5.4.3 of the Referenced SER (pg. 5-14,
- 15) discussed the necessity for confirmation that low flow alarms on the LPI pumps are powered from emergency power sources.
The following information responds to the SER concern:
LPSI pump low flow alarms are provided by the Plant Monitoring System (PMS).
The PMS monitors the analog inputs from the flow transmitter and generates an alarm when a programmed setpoint value is reached.
The
-flow transmitters are powered by emergency power.
The PMS is powered by a reliable, but not an emergency power source.
An Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) provides power to the PMS from the 125V dc station battery or, optionally, from a 120V ac instrument bus.
The station battery is rated for two hours of fully loaded operation.
The above discussion responds to the request made by confirmatory item No.
12 of the subject SER. If you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact me.
Very truly yours 82i< o S0005
