On January 26,

1982, Bruce Kaplan of my staff spoke to Jack Sproul (QA Branch-NRC) and Bob Bosnak ('hief of the kfechanical Engineering Branch-NRC) relative to field code activities performed by Combustion Engineering, Xncorporated-Avery prior to issuance of a Certificate of Authorization.

These activities-are allowed by Subarticle NCA 8153 of ASME Section

XXX, Summer 1981 Addenda, but this Addenda has not yet been formally accept'ed by the NRC, This work is in progress and an ASME survey of CE-Avery's field activities fe scheduled, for February, 3.982,"

Although. NRC acceptance/approval of NCA-8153 on PVNGS apparently is not required, this letter is to advise the NRC about CE's plan which, has. been accepted by CE-.Avery's inspection agency.
