g.6 Is ANS 3.5 appropriate for judging the adequacy of the simulator?

What requir'ements does ANS 3.5 contain?

Answer ANS 3.5 is endorsed by Regulatory Guide 1.149 with some exceptions.

Use of ANS 3.5 and the guide are approriate for judging the functional capability of a simulator and for comparing a simulator to its reference plant.

However, utilities, including Arizona Power Company, have until August 1, 1984 to be in full compliance with the standard.

Requirements include specifying:

1.

The minimum plant evolutions to be simulated.

2.

The minimum number of malfunctions (75), including a list of 22 mandatory malfunctions.

3.

Simulator and control room environment.

4.

Systems to be simulated and the degree of completeness of simulation.

5.

Simulator training capabilities.

6.

Steady state and transient operation performance criteria.

7.

Provisions for updating and testing.
