In response to Reference 2,

we have previously submitted two quarterly progress reports (References 3 and 4) on the projected plant completion dates for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station (PVNGS) Unit 1.

Reference 1 indicated that quarterly updates should continue until issu-ance of the Safety Analysis Report (SER) for PVNGS.

As you are aware,'he SER for PVNGS was published early in November,

1981, as scheduled.

We would, however, like to indicate to you that PVNGS Unit 1 still con-tinues at an accelerated pace and we are striving to achieve.our scheduled fuel load date of November, 1982, despite a very tight schedule.

We were very pleased that the SER was issued in a timely manner and be-lieve that the NRC staff's dedication to the PVNGS review and effective pro'ject management by the NRCwas a key to this success.
