S 50-528/5'29/53 By 1'ettdr ANPP-15746-JHA/WFQ, dated June 27>> 1980, Arizona Publfc Service Company has requested authorization to use ASME Code Cases N-274 and N-275 fn their piping specification (13-DH-204), "Field Fabrfcatfon Installation of Nuclear Piping," for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, Units

1. 2, and 3.

Code Case N-274, dated March 17, 1980, "Alternate Rules for Examination of Meld Repairs for Section III, Division 1 Construction," is an acceptable code case subject to the following conditions in addition to those conditions specified fn the code case.

These additional conditions are that the use of this code case should be limited only to ferrftfc materials.

Ifft is desired to use the code case on austenftfc materials, then a demonstratfon of the validity of the UT procedures prfor to use of the code case fs

'necessary.

Special UT techniques-or RT may be required.

Code Case N-275, dated Hay 15, 1980, -"Repair of Melds,Section III, Division 1," fs an acceptable code case subject to the following conditions fn addition to those conditions specified fn the code case.

These additional conditions are that the. use of this code case may only be applied when the removal of an indication requires that the full weld thickness be rem'oved and fn addition the backside of the weld joint assembly fs not accessable to remove examinatio~n

- materials.

If an indication fs removed and weld metal layers remain, the case cannot be used by gauging through the rrall.

Instead, in such a situation, ~examina4io~nof the cavity is required when the indication has been removed; Therefore, Code Cases N-274 and N-275 may be used fn pfpfng specfficatfon 13-DH-204 for the Palo Verde Nuclear generating Station, Units 1, 2, and 3, subject to the conditions indicated above.

Use of these code cases shou'td be documented fn the FSAR.
