('he design and construction of PVNGS has been reviewed in regards to NRC I8E Bulletin No. 80-08, Examination of Containment Liner Penetration Welds Our response to the action items are as follows

1.

The PVNGS design incorporates butt welded sleeve connections for continuity of the containment boundary as described in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

2 (a)

Construction is in accordance with ASME Section III, Division 1, 1974 Edition through the Winter 1975 Addenda.

(b)

The subject welds are classified by project documents as

. ASME Section III, Class 2, and are required to be radio-graphed and documented in accordance with Section III.

(c)

The subject welds are butted joints with pipe size and material in accordance with the enclosure.

Backing bars were utilized on only two of the 63 welds discussed under (d) below.

A total of 63 joints have been welded, 19 of which required repair in accordance with ASME Section III.

A total of 36 weld areas were repaired due to unaccept-able indications which have been categorized as follows:
