A 50.55(e) Potentially Reportable Deficiency Relating to Undersized Structural Steel Fillet Welds Final Report File: 80-019-026

Reference:

(1) Telephone Conversation between R. Haynes and B. S. Kaplan on June 12, 1980 (DER 80-3)

(2) interim Report, ANPP-15741, dated June 26, 1980

Dear Sir:

Attached, is our final written report of the potential reportable deficiency, under 10CFR50.55(e), relating to fillet welds for structural steel undersized with xespect to AWS Dl.1 and AISC min-imum weld requirements.

The structural fillet welds referenced in this report, even though undersized with respect to the minimum requirements of AWS D1.1-75 and AXSC, are sufficient to handle the design loadings while pro-viding an adequate safety margin for crack prevention. The struc-tural fillet welding referenced herein will be accepted without repair.

Since it is demonstrated that this condition has no safety significance, does not require any repair operations and did not require extensive analysis, it is dispositioned as not reportable.

Very truly yours, E. E. Van Brunt, Jr.
