ARIZONA SPECIAL INTERIM HOUSE COMMITTEE OH ATOMIC ENERGY QUESTION ON CONFLICT OF INTEREST OF RESIDENT INSPECTOR ASSIGNMENT AT PALO VERDE On September 20,

1979, Frank =Young of the Office of State Programs appeared before the Arizona Special Interim House Committee on Atomic Energy chaired by House Majority Leader Burton Barr.

During the course of these

hearings, a request was made for the appearance of Mr.

L.

E. Vorderbrueggen, the HRC resident inspector at Palo Verde 1,

A question of conflict of interest was raised since Mr. Vorderbrueggen had at one time been employed by Bechtel Corporation, the AE-constructor for Palo Verde.

Mr. Vorderbrueggen is scheduled to appear before the Committee when it convenes

today, September 21, 1979.

Hr. Vorderbrueggen initially started as a reactor inspector with AEC's Division of Compliance, Region III Office in 1965.

In 1970 he terminated to accept employment with Bechtel Corporation'.s San Francisco Office.

In January

1975, he returned to the

'ommission's IE:Region V Office in Malnut Creek, California as a construction reactor inspector.

In August 197S, he was assigned as the resident inspector at Palo Verde 1,

A news release by Region V is not planned.
