Dear Mr. Engelken:
Our reactor vessel manufacturer, Combustion Engineering, Inc., is currently
-engaged in performing the records search requested by I&E Bulletin 78-12 (as modified by supplement 12A).
They have informed'us that they.plan to submit a generic report directly to the NRC covering all reactor vessels manufactured by CE.
They will certify to us the applicability of the report to the reactor vessel for the PVNGS.
We will then reference the generic, report'in our final'esponse
'to the bulletin.
We believe that this commitment is responsive to the requests contained in ISE Bulletin 78-12'nd 78-12A, and we will resolve the Commission's concern relative to the possible use of atypical
. weld material.
Due to the nature of the data requested by the Bulletin and the large volume of material that must be gathered,
- collated, and researched, Combustion Engineering is currently estimating that the report can be completed and sub-mitted to the NRC by August 13, 1979.
We would expect that within 30 days thereafter we can provide a response on the PVNGS docket, referencing C-E's generic report.
