REPORT 50-397/95-98

The

purpose

of this letter is to

announce

a

Region

IV inspection

at your

facility.

The inspection will consist of a site visit and in-office review of

- information.

This inspection effort is intended to be completed at each site by

one inspector

in about

2 days.

The schedule for the inspection is contained in

Attachment

1 to thii letter.

Recently,

several

facilities

have

experienced

problems

with Terry turbines.

including overspeed

trips.

The purpose of this inspection

is to review and

assess

the safety performance experience of Terry turbines in auxiliary feedwater

or reactor

core isolation cooling systems,

as applicable.

While on site. this

inspection will emphasize

the gathering of site performance

data to support'n

in-office assessment.

The

inspection will be

conducted

using

portions

of

Inspection

Procedure

93801

"Safety

System

Functional

Inspection."

Some

facilities

may

not

receive

a

site visit

based

on

recent

inspection

and

understanding

of system configuration.

To assist in achieving the objectives of the inspection,

we request that you make

available for review the performance information contained in Attachment 2.
