SUBJECT:
REACTOR RECIRCULATION PIPING WELD FLAW REINSPECTION RESULTS REVIEW AT WASHINGTON PUBLIC POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM NUCLEAR PROJECT NO.
2 (WNP-2) (TAC" NO. H92351)
Dear Hr. Parrish:
The staff has evaluated the results, of your recirculation piping weld 20RRC(6)-8 flaw examination and evaluation, submitted by letter dated May 15,
- 1995, and performed in accordance with NRC Generic Letter (GL) 88-01, "NRC Position on IGSCC in BWR Austenitic Stainless Steel Piping."
You concluded that the structural integrity of this weld will be maintained during WNP-2's next operating cycle.
The staff has reviewed your weld reinspection results.
No significant changes in flaw depth or signal characteristics have been noted.
Also, the signal characteristics reported by the licensee are not typical of intergranular stress corrosion cracking.
The licensee has previously submitted an analysis of this flaw to the staff, and the staff reviewed and approved the analysis.
The staff concludes that the structural integrity of this weld will be maintained during your next operating cycle.
The staff based this conclusion on the reported small crack growth during the last four operating cycles and on the fact that the present flaw size is bounded by previous analyses.
Please contact me at (301) 415-1352 if you have any questions.
Sincerely, ACRS (4),
