WNP-2 OPERATING LICENSE NPF-21, INDIVIDUAL PLANT EXAMINATION(IPE)
Reference:
Letter G02-92-206, dated August 28,
- 1992, GC Sorensen (SS) to NRC, "Response to Generic Letter 88-20" The reference transmitted the Supply System response to the request of Generic Letter 88-20 for an Individual Plant Examination (IPE) of WNP-2 for severe accident vulnerabilities.
Since the submittal of the WNP-2 IPE, the Supply System has had an on-going effort to identify areas, processes and methods which can best make use of the unique insights possible from use of Probabilistic Risk Assessments (PRAs) such as the WNP-2 IPE.
As part of this effort, the Supply System has recognized the need to bring the IPE models up-to-date with current plant configuration.
This is in recognition that the WNP-2 model was frozen as it existed in 1989 when work began on the IPE.
Based on comments received from consultants, some changes in the logic used within the models must be made to reduce overconservatisms and to better reflect plant response to given events.
While these changes will not significantly change the Core Damage Frequency (CDF) published in the IPE, it is likely that different sequences willbecome important in terms ofcontribution to CDF. The result ofthese changes would ultimately be seen in changes in relative importance of plant equipment.

For these reasons we suggest that the NRC delay review of the WNP-2 IPE until our update can be submitted.
The Supply System intends to submit the update by May 28, 1994.
