Box 968 3000 George Washington Way Richland, Washington 99352

Dear flair. Sorensen:

SUBJECT:

NUCLEAR PLANT NO. 2:

EVALUATION OF STATIC 0 RING DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE SWITCHES AT llNP-2 (TAC NO. 61816)

Following an event at the LaSalle County Station, Unit 2, the staff issued NRC Bulletin 86-02, "Static 0 Ring (SOR) Differential Pressure Switches,"

on July 18, 1986.

The Bulletin noted that response of certain SORs had been found to be erratic and requested information from licensees regarding the number, type and performance history of the subject sviitches.

The staff has reviewed the information you provided by letters dated July 29, 1986 and November 7, 1986, and by telephone on August 22, 1990, and has concluded that the use of SOR switches at Washington Nuclear Plant Unit 2 is acceptable.

For your information, I have enclosed a safety evaluation summarizing the staff's review.

This completes our efforts on TAC No. 61816.

Sincerely,

Enclosure:
