This refers to the enforcement
conference
and subsequent
management
meeting
held in the Region
V Office on November 20, 1989, during which we discussed
the environmental qualification of taped electrical splices,
the Supply
System's
commercial
grade
procurement
program,
and other management
issues.
The subjects
discussed
during the meeting are described
in the enclosed
Meeting Report
No. 50-397/89-36.
The information presented
during the Enforcement
Conference
and the
subsequent
Supply System letter dated
November 30,
1989 will be evaluated.
Enforcement action related to taped splices
and Limitorque motor operator
'-drains
(discussed
during our enforcement
conference
on June 28,
1989) will
be the subject of separate
correspondence.
With regard to your commercial
grade
procurement
program,
we will evaluate
the information you provided during our November
20 meeting
and in the
November 30,
1989 letter sent
by the Supply System.
The letter was sent in
response
to our request that you provide
a copy of your consultant's
report
describing the methodology
and results of the review of the 50 additional
commercial
grade procurements
used in potentially safety-related
applications.
We appreciate
the information provided concerning
the Limitorque operator
mounting bolt and turbine-generator trip inoperability issues
and will
continue to monitor'your resolution of these
issues.
As discussed
during the meeting,
a more in-depth discussion of the Supply
System's
response
to the latest
SALP report is planned for our next
management
meeting.
At that time we would like, to discuss
in more detail the
programs
in pl'ace to address
specific
SALP issues,
those
planned,
and their
expected
completion dates.
In accordance
with 10 CFR 2.790(a),
a copy of this letter and the encl.osure
will be placed in the
NRC Public Document
Room.
