STANDBY DIESEL GENERATOR AUTOMATIC RETURN TO STANDBY MODE (TAC NO. 60955)

By letter dated December 2, 1983 (G02-83-1111)

Washington Public Power Supply System notified NRC that the WNP-2 Diesel Generator design feature for automatic speed control characteristic switching did not work correctly.

In that letter you committed to either implement a design change to the diesel generators for automatic control characteristic selection or to provide a justification for not implementing a design modification.

By letter dated March 10, 1986 (G02-86-201) you provided the alternative justification and demonstrated that the system conforms to all Regulatory requirements.

The staff reviewed your March 10, 1986 letter and found your technical justification acceptable.

We therefore consider this issue closed.

A copy of the safety evaluation documenting the review is enclosed.
