This letter is. to confirm an agreement made during the telephone discussion on July 13, 1989 by myself and Mr. G. Bouchey of your staff regarding your response on the suitability of five commercially procured items installed in the plant.
In essence, in our letter of July 3, 1989, we requested you to perform a reevaluation of these five items based on your recently enhanced procurement program which assures that the applicable critical characteristics of commercial grade items are identified and verified prior to use in safety-related applications.
Your response of July 10, 1989 failed to identify the critical characteristics required to be verified to ascertain item acceptabi,lity.
Consequently, you have not shown proper dedication of the five installed items which, at this time, are considered to be of an indeterminate quality.
Therefore, as agreed. upon with Mr. Bouchey, we are requesting that you
- resubmit, by July 20, 1989, your response to our original request of July 3, 1989 with emphasis on the identification of the applicable critical characteristics, how these critical characteristics were verified, and why you consider the items are acceptable as installed.
Should you have any questions concerning this matter, we will be pleased to discuss them with you.
