This refers to the management
meeting held with members of Supply System
management
at the
WNP-2 site
near
Richland, Washington,
on May 26,
1989.
The
purpose of this meeting
was to discuss
issues of current interest,
including
your progress
in addressing
conclusions
and recommendations
of the
1987 - 88
SALP Report,
regarding activities authorized
by
NRC License
Subjects
discussed
during the meeting are
summarized
in the enclosed
meeting report
No. 50-397/89-18.
We note that you have invested considerable effort in response
to observa-
tions presented
in the
1988
SALP report,
and encourage
you to continue the
initiatives you have
begun.
We also encourage
you to review the findings
of the safety
system
outage
management
inspection
(SSOMI) and to take appro-
priate actions to correct the identified problems
and their root causes.
While we noted that progress
has
been
made,
considerable effort is still
needed for the Supply System to achieve its goal of being
a top performer in
the nuclear industry.
We also
commented
on recent events
involving isolation
of shutdown cooling, indicating
a need for continued
improvement in the
control of plant activities.
In accordance
with 10 CFR 2.790(a),
a copy of this letter and the enclosure
will be placed in'the
NRC Public Document
Room.
