Use of Portions of Later Addenda of ASME Section XI Examination of Class 2 Systems,"

dated March 20, 1984 The reference letter requested that the Commission evaluate and approve a

plant-specific alternative inspection program for the selection and examination of class 2 piping which consists of using paragraphs IWC-1220, IWC-1221, IWC-1222 and Table IWC-2500, Examination Category C-F, from the 1983 Edition of Section XI of the ASME Code including Addenda through Winter 1983.

These requirements will be used in lieu of the mandatory requirements which according to 10CFR50.55a are ASME Section XI 1980 Edition, with Addenda through Winter 1980.

For emergency core cooling and residual heat removal

system, 1974 Edition including Addenda through Summer 1975.

The staff has reviewed your request and compared your proposed alternative inspection program with the requirements of the regulations.

The staff has determined that your alternative inspection program would result in more inservice volumetric examinations and thus your program for the selection and examination of Class 2 piping, as described in the referenced letter is acceptable.
