WNP-2 SupplementaL Safety Evaluation Report 6.3.2.3 Emergency Core Cooling Systems Functional D esign With regard to provisions to protect the low pressure emergency core cooling systems from overpressurization by the reactor coolant systems the staff's position is that one of the three options discussed in Section 6.3 'of the Standard Review PLan (MUR EG-0800) be'mplemented.

In Letters dated July 28'982'nd September 28'982'rom G.

D. Bouchey (Washington Public Power Supply System WPPSS) to A. Schwencer (NR C)i the applicant committed to a modification to the controL logic on the pressure interlocks for the Low pressure ECCS injection valves.

The new Logic wiLL permit opening of the motor operated isolation valve only when the reactor coolant pressure is below the design pressure of Low pressure system involved.

The interlocked valvei in series with a check valver is consistent with the guidelines of the Standard Review PLan.

The applicant has also committed to implementing this change by fuel Load.

Based upon the conceptual design and schedule commitment di scussed herein'ut contingent upon an amendment to the FSAR in this regards we find the applicant's proposed modification acceptable.
