SUBJECT:
CONTROL OF LEAllAGE FROM THE ISOLATION YALYES IN THE ECCS In the course of our continuing review of the WNP-2 facility, we have identified a need for additional information regarding the design features in your facility which will contain leakage from isolation valves in the emergency core cooling systems.
The specfffc information sought is contained in the enclosure to this letter.
If you have any questions on this matter, please contact the Project Manager, M. D. Lynch, at (301)492-8413.
Sincerely,

ENCLOSURE 211.212 Our position on the emergency core cooling systems (ECCS) is that these systems should be designed to withstand the failure of any single actjve or passive component without adversely affecting their long-term cooling capabilities.
In this regard, we are concerned that the suppression pool in boiling water reactors '(BWR's) may be drained by leakage from isolatio'n
. valves which may be rendered inaccessible by localized radioactive contam-ination following a postulated loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA).
Accordingly, indicate, the desian features in the WNP-2 facility which will contain leak-age from the first isolation valve in the ECCS'ines taking water (suction lines) from the suppressionpool during the long-term cooling phase following a postulated LOCA.

REPORTABLE CONDITION, GROUNDING OF FLEXIBLE CONDUIT Letter from Glenn G.
Sherwood to Victor Stello, same
- subject, 12/22/80 (MFN-216-80)
The reference letter advised you that an action plan to effect corrective action of the defect reported to you on December 8, 1980 would be forwarded to you by January 31, 1981.
The defect is inadequate grounding of some flexible conduit in Power Generation Control Complex (PGCC) equipment shipped to customers.
The schedule for implementing the corrective action is:
1)
July 3, 1981.
Issue "Correcting Field Instructions" for the addition of ground straps to affected flexible conduit on shipped plants; i.e., Limerick 1
and 2, Susquehanna 1 and 2, Hanfor d 2, Grand Gulf 1
and 2, Clinton 1
and 2, Perry 1
and 2'.
2)
June 30, 1981.
Issue a grounding requirement document applicable to those plants in the.design and manufacturing cycle; i.e.,
Nine Mile Point 2, River Bend 1
and 2, Hartsville Al, A2, Bl, B2; Phipps Bend 1
and 2, Skagit 1
and 2, Aliens Creek, Black Fox 1 and 2.
Very truly yours, Gle n G.
