Stop Work, Repairs and Attachments to the Sacrificial Shield Wall, WNP-2 In response to the identified problem of improper assembly of the sacrificial shield wall (WPPSS Interim 50.55(e)

Report No. G02-79-196 of October 31, 1979) and other problems of concrete voids, visually rejectable

welds, and related repairs, it is our understanding you have directed your contractor for mechanical equipment installation (Contract 215) to stop all repairs and attachments to the sacrificial shield wall.

With respect to the resumption of the work in question, it is our under-standing that the following conditions will apply:

a.

Reinspections and quality records reviews will be completed and all.problems identified.

b.

A comprehensive corrective action plan (which will include any design

changes, and rationale for acceptance of non-reinspectable work) will be developed and submitted to the NRC in an interim 50.55(e) report.

The resumption of any segment of the work is contingent upon NRC review of the associated corrective action plan.

If our understanding of your planned actions is not as described

above, please contact this office immediately.
