NRC Inspection No. 50-244/94-08
An announced inspection of the radiological controls program at the Robert E. Ginna Nuclear
Power Plant was conducted of activities authorized by NRC License No. DPR-18, by Mr. J.
Noggle of this office, during the period March 28, 1994 through April 1, 1994.
The
findings of the inspection were discussed by Mr. Noggle with Mr. J. Widay and other
members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection on April 1, 1994.

Areas reviewed during the inspection are important to health and safety and are discussed in
the enclosed inspection report,
The areas reviewed included personnel exposure control and
exposure reduction techniques employed during the Spring 1994 refueling outage.
The radiation protection organization performed effectively in providing the necessary job
coverage radiation safety oversight of outage activities.
Some improvements were noted in
the as low as is reasonably achievable (ALARA)program with continuing support from the
engineering organization.
Additional areas for continued growth in the ALARAprogram
were identified. We also note that your internal dosimetry tracking process
was cumbersome
and limits your ability to obtain timely and accurate data on a real-time basis.
No safety concerns or violations of NRC regulatory requirements were identified during the
inspection.
