UNITED STATES NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON, D. C. 20555 October 29, 1991 Docket No. 50-244 Dr. Robert C. Mecredy, Vice President Ginna Nuclear Production Rochester Gas 5 Electric Corporation 89 East Avenue Rochester, New York 14649
Dear Dr. Mecredy:
SUBJECT:
DOCUMENTATION RE(VEST TO SUPPORT THE.GINNA,SERVICE WATER SYSTEM, OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE INSPECTION The NRC plans to conduct a'ilot service water system operational performance inspection (SWSOPI) of the Ginna facility during the weeks of December 2 and 16, 1991.
This inspection will assess the design, operation, maintenance, sur-veillancee, and quality assurance and corrective actions associated with the Ginna service water system.
The team will also assess your planned and com-pleted actions in response to Generic Letter 89-13, "Service Water System Problems Affecting Safety-Related Equipment."
In order to support this effort, the team. requests that.=certain documentation.
be. made. available during a pre-inspection site visit scheduled for November 19-21, 1991'.
The needed informa-tion is listed in the enclosure.
The NRC has found that overview presentations directed to the entire team are an efficient means, for both the team and licensee, to communicate information relevant to the inspection.
To this end, we request that your staff provide informal presentations during the team's November 19-21, 1991 site visit de-scribing the service water system design and operations, significant system modifications, actions. in response to GL 89-13, and the history of system problems.
In addition, a brief overview of the Ginna engineering designations and drawings would be appreciated.
If there are any questions regarding the information requested or the inspec-tion itself, please feel free to contact the Team Leader, Melanic A. Miller, at (301) 492-0964.
